Four Chosen for All-Region Team

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills had four players -- two sophomores and two freshmen -- named to the All-Region softball teams.

For both of the IHCC sophomores -- Hiliary Pennington and Kaitlyn Matzen -- it was their second straight all-region selection.  Pennington was a first-team choice in the outfield for the second year in a row, and Matzen moved up from the second team to the first team this year.  She was the first baseman on the first team.

Named to the second team were freshmen Kendle Schieber, one of the pitchers, and outfielder Laci Moore.

Pennington's .378 batting average led the team and she was also the leader in at-bats (148), runs (38), hits (56), walks (21) and stolen bases (10).

Matzen had team-highs in doubles (11), home runs (12) and RBIs (40) while hitting .346.  She finished her IHCC career with 18 homers, tied for 7th all-time.

Contributing both as a pitcher and a hitter, Schieber had a 13-12 pitching record with a 2.43 ERA.  She struck out 179 and walked only 25 in 173 innings.  At the plate, she was right behind Pennington with a .376 average, slugged five homers and had 36 RBIs.

The speedy Moore batted .327 in her freshman campaign.  She drove in the game-winning run in one of the region tournament wins against Muscatine.
