Hudson to Play at Missouri Valley

Ottumwa -- Recent Indian Hills graduate Carrie Hudson is headed to Missouri Valley College to continue her education and softball career.  Hudson signed a letter-of-intent with the school that is located in Marshall, Mo.

Hudson, a two-year starter at third base for Indian Hills, came to IHCC after a decorated career at Kirksville HS in Kirksville, Mo.  She hit .259 in two years at Indian Hills with three HRs and 34 RBIs.  She was an Academic All-Region selection this past year.

A two-time all-state player in high school, Hudson was also named to the all-district, all-conference and all-region teams her junior and senior seasons and she set the Missouri State High School Activities Association record for most RBIs in a single season with 44 her junior campaign.  She was also named all-conference, all-district and all-sectional in track in high school.

The Missouri Valley softball team is coached by Daniel Allen and qualified for the conference postseason tournament this spring.

Beaver, Holmes Have Standout Seasons for IWC

Ottumwa -- Two former Indian Hills softball players completed their careers at Iowa Wesleyan College by being named All-Americans and playing in the national tournament.

Outfielder Tory Beaver and pitcher Sonja Holmes, both seniors, were selected to the USCAA All-American team and helped lead Iowa Wesleyan to the USCAA National Championships.

Beaver posted a .457 batting average during the regular season with four homers, eight doubles, three triples and a robust .734 slugging percentage.  She was also named to the USCAA All-Academic Team.

Holmes was the top pitcher for the Tigers, compiling an 8-4 record with four shutouts.

As freshmen at Indian Hills, Beaver and Holmes played on the 2010 Indian Hills team that qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament in St. George, Utah.

In their first season in the USCAA, Iowa Wesleyan finished fourth in the national tourney, splitting four games there.

Four Chosen for All-Region Team

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills had four players -- two sophomores and two freshmen -- named to the All-Region softball teams.

For both of the IHCC sophomores -- Hiliary Pennington and Kaitlyn Matzen -- it was their second straight all-region selection.  Pennington was a first-team choice in the outfield for the second year in a row, and Matzen moved up from the second team to the first team this year.  She was the first baseman on the first team.

Named to the second team were freshmen Kendle Schieber, one of the pitchers, and outfielder Laci Moore.

Pennington's .378 batting average led the team and she was also the leader in at-bats (148), runs (38), hits (56), walks (21) and stolen bases (10).

Matzen had team-highs in doubles (11), home runs (12) and RBIs (40) while hitting .346.  She finished her IHCC career with 18 homers, tied for 7th all-time.

Contributing both as a pitcher and a hitter, Schieber had a 13-12 pitching record with a 2.43 ERA.  She struck out 179 and walked only 25 in 173 innings.  At the plate, she was right behind Pennington with a .376 average, slugged five homers and had 36 RBIs.

The speedy Moore batted .327 in her freshman campaign.  She drove in the game-winning run in one of the region tournament wins against Muscatine.

Season Ends in Title Game of Region Tourney

Ottumwa -- The Indian Hills softball team couldn't duplicate its success in the final regular season games against Iowa Western when it met the Reivers in the Region 11 tournament and IWCC took home the title in the weekend tourney hosted by Indian Hills.

The Warriors had swept a doubleheader from Iowa Western on Thursday and maintained the momentum with a win in their first postseason game, beating Muscatine CC, 4-2, on Saturday.  But the Warriors then dropped a 4-3 decision to Iowa Western in the day's late game.

Sunday began with IHCC knowing it would need to win three straight games to claim the region crown in the double elimination event.  They got a 4-1 win over Muscatine, but then lost 6-4 to Iowa Western in the title game.

It was the fifth year in a row that Indian Hills played in the championship game of the postseason region tourney, but the third straight year they were eliminated by Iowa Western.

Kendle Schieber provided the Warriors with a huge effort, throwing complete games in the first three games of the tourney.

The only runs allowed by Schieber in the two games with Muscatine -- her 3rd and 4th wins of the season against the Cardinals -- came on solo home runs.

After giving up a leadoff homer in the game with MCC on Saturday, Schieber saw teammate Kaitlyn Matzen put IHCC on top with a two-run home run in the 5th inning.  Olivia Starcevich and Matzen drove in insurance runs in the 6th and the Warriors started the region with a win.

Caitlin Nichol had her second solo homer in the 7th, acounting for all the MCC scoring.

Against IWCC the first day of the tourney, the teams traded bases-empty HRs -- Schieber hit one for the Warriors and Sam Villegas for the Reivers -- until Iowa Western scored three runs in the 5th.  Indian Hills got two of the runs back in the bottom of the 5th, one on a single by Matzen, but came up a run short.

Schieber went all seven innings in both games on Saturday and had another seven-inning performance in the game with Muscatine the next day.  After the Warriors scored an unearned run in the 1st, Dana Suiter hit a solo homer in the 4th to tie it.  But that's the only run MCC managed against Schieber, who allowed only five hits and struck out seven, retiring the last seven batters she faced.

An RBI infield single by Laci Moore scored Matzen from 2nd base in the 6th to break a 1-1 tie, and Kaylyn DeCock had a two-out, two-run single in the 7th to add to the lead.

But, again, the Warriors fell victim to Iowa Western in the next game.

The Reivers scored two runs in the 3rd against IHCC starter Courtney Collins and three in the next inning against reliever Mackenzie Haight when the Warriors mishandled two straight squeeze bunts.  They added a run on a Villegas homer in the 6th.

DeCock's RBI single in the 3rd opened the scoring for IHCC and Matzen made it a one-run game with a three-run home run in the 5th.  The Warriors, down 6-4, loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the 7th, but an infield groundout ended their hopes of forcing a winner-take-all game with Iowa Western.

For good measure, Schieber came on in relief and pitched a one-two-three 7th inning to cap a solid freshman season.

Indian Hills ends the year with a 22-28 record.  Four sophomores -- Hiliary Pennington, Kaitlyn Matzen, Carrie Hudson and Felisha Durflinger -- finished their IHCC careers with the defeat.  Pennington, Matzen and Hudson were all two-year starters at Indian Hills and Durflinger started all year after playing her freshman season at Marshalltown CC.

Warriors Get Satisfying Sweep

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills couldn't have asked for a better way to end the regular season and get ready for this weekend's Region 11 postseason tournament.  The Warriors, who honored the four sophomores on the roster between games of the doubleheader, got outstanding pitching, timely hitting and stellar defense in taking both games from league-leading Iowa Western, winning 4-0 and 2-1.

The victories vaulted the Warriors from last place in the conference standings into a tie for second with Muscatine CC, whom IHCC will now face in their opening game in the region tourney.

Freshman Kendle Schieber gave Indian Hills a super pitching performance in the first game.  Schieber shut out the Reivers on four hits and struck out 11.  She capped her effort with back-to-back Ks to end the game, the fifth inning in which she struck out two batters.

After leaving three runners in scoring position in the first two innings, the Warriors broke through in the 3rd.  IHCC loaded the bases with one out and two runs scored on a throwing error on an infield grounder.  Cheyenne Ellis then walked with the bases loaded to force in another run.

The final run scored on another error in the 6th.

Hiliary Pennington, who enjoyed a great day at the plate, had three hits in the first game and matched that total in game two.  Number-nine hitter Laci Moore had a pair of hits in the opener, and then had two more from the 7th spot in the lineup the next game.

IHCC took an early lead in game two when Pennington singled and scored on a fielder's choice grounout.

After being held scoreless for the first 11 innings, Iowa Western broke through with a tying run in the 5th, courtesy of a two-out single by Bekah Sanchez.

The Warriors loaded the bases in the bottom of the 7th on singles by Pennington, Olivia Starcevich and Kaylyn DeCock and scored the game-winning run on a throwing error on a grounder to shortstop.

Starcevich, DeCock and Moore all had two-hit games to go along with Pennington's three safeties.

A couple of IHCC freshmen combined to hold Iowa Western's offense in check.  Courtney Collins pitched into the 5th inning and gave way to Mackenzie Haight, who stranded a runner at second to get out of the 5th with the score tied at one and then followed with two shutout innings.

The losses were the first two in the conference for Iowa Western and gave Indian Hills three wins in their last four league games heading into the weekend region event.

Warriors and SCC Divide a DH

West Burlington, IA -- After winning the first game 6-2, it looked halfway through game two that Indian Hills may sweep a conference doubleheader with Southeastern CC on Wednesday.  The Warriors led the second contest 5-1 after 3 1/2 innings, but SCC exploded for six runs in the bottom of the 4th and went on to gain a split with a 7-6 win over the Warriors.

Kendle Schieber not only got the pitching victory in the first game for IHCC, but it was her grand slam home run that was the big hit in a five-run 3rd inning that the Warriors rode to the game one win.

Schieber struck out nine and allowed eight hits in notching her 10th win of the season.  She and Kaylyn DeCock each had two hits for IHCC and Olivia Starcevich scored twice.

The Warriors scored a run in the 1st, three in the 2nd and another run in the 4th in the second game and took the 5-1 lead into the home half of the 4th.  The six-run rally by SCC put them on top 7-5 and Indian Hills could only get one run back the final three innings.

Hiliary Pennington and Kaitlyn Matzen had two-hit games for the Warriors, who outhit SCC 9-6.  Matzen had a solo homer, her 11th of the season.

Indian Hills ends the regular season with a doubleheader against Iowa Western in Ottumwa on Thursday.  The Warriors will host the Region 11 postseason tournament at Hellyer Field this Saturday and Sunday.  Action starts at 10:00 on Saturday morning.

Shutout Pitching by Collins, Haight Leads to Split

Ottumwa -- After losing their first three games of the weekend, the Indian Hills Warriors needed a good pitching performance to try and salvage the final game.  And they got it from freshmen Courtney Collins and Mackenzie Haight, who combined on a four-hit shutout as IHCC knocked off Illinois Central, 2-0, on Sunday at Hellyer Field.

Indian Hills was blanked in the opening game, losing 3-0.

In game two, Collins went the first four innings, giving up three hits and striking out four.  Haight permitted only one hit and fanned five in a sterling relief effort.

IHCC got both its runs in the 3rd on RBI hits by Kaitlyn Matzen and Kaylyn DeCock.  Matzen's run-scoring double scored Olivia Starcevich and DeCock followed with another two-base hit, both coming with two outs, to bring home Matzen.

Kendle Schieber suffered the loss in the first game, going the distance and only allowing five hits.  She also had two of the four hits for IHCC with Laci Moore and Matzen getting the other two.

The Warriors are scheduled to play Iowa Western at home on Tuesday.

Warriors Lose Two at Iowa Western

Council Bluffs, IA -- League-leading Iowa Western took both games of a doubleheader with Indian Hills on Saturday, winning 6-0 and 8-5.

The Warriors only managed three hits in the opener, a single and a double by Carrie Hudson and a single by Kendle Schieber.  Schieber was IHCC's starting pitcher and she shut out the Reivers through the first four innings, before IWCC got two runs in the 5th and added four more in the next inning.

The Warriors were more productive offensively in the nightcap, outhitting Iowa Western 12-8, but a 7th-inning rally came up short.

Kaylyn DeCock, Kaitlyn Matzen and Schieber all had doubles and Matzen added a triple to the IHCC attack.  DeCock had four RBIs and Hiliary Pennington scored two runs.  Five different Warriors had two-hit games.

Indian Hills used three pitchers with starter Courtney Collins taking the loss.

Warriors Have to Settle for Another Split with MCC

Ottumwa -- For the second time this season, Indian Hills used a strong pitching performance from Kendle Schieber to take the first game of a doubleheader with Muscatine CC, only to see the Cardinals bounce back in game two and come away with a split.  The Warriors won 5-2 and Muscatine countered with a 4-1 decision on Tuesday at Hellyer Field.

Schieber, who had pitched a complete game in an 11-inning win at Muscatine earlier in the month, scattered seven hits and struck out nine.  She was especially tough in the fifth and sixth innings, pitching out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth and stranding runners at 2nd and 3rd in the next inning.

Schieber also had a hand at the plate in the Warriors' three-run 1st inning that began with back-to-back infield singles by Hiliary Pennington and Olivia Starcevich.  The first run scored on an error and Schieber and Carrie Hudson then delivered run-scoring doubles.

IHCC made it 5-0 in the 3rd when Pennington walked with the bases loaded and Cheyenne Ellis had an RBI single.  Dana Suiter drove in the MCC runs with a two-run double in the 4th, then had the big blow in the second game, a three-run homer.

The Warriors outhit the Cardinals 6-4 in the second game, but could only manage a single run in the 3rd inning.

Indian Hills is 16-22 and 2-4 in the conference.  The Warriors go to Southeastern for a league DH on Friday.

Warriors Grab Two Wins

Ottumwa -- A five-run 3rd inning allowed Indian Hills to come from behind and take the opener of a doubleheader with the William Penn JV on Saturday and the Warriors then completed the sweep by scoring eight runs in the second inning of the nightcap on the way to a 12-1 romp.

With IHCC trailing 4-1 in game one, Kaitlyn Matzen sparked the comeback with a two-run double and Carrie Hudson put the Warriors on top with another two-run two-base hit.  Indian Hills added to the lead with single runs in the 5th and 6th.

Olivia Starcevich rapped out three hits for the Warriors and Hudson and Hiliary Pennington each had two.  Pennington and Kendle Schieber scored two runs each.

Mackenzie Haight and Megan Brady shared pitching duties for IHCC, Haight going the first six innings and getting the win.

The second game was decided early when the Warriors' first eight batters in the bottom of the 2nd all reached base and came around to score.  Matzen slugged her first of two homers in that inning, a two-run shot.  She added a three-run blast the next inning, her 10th homer of the season.

Courtney Collins pitched all five innings for the Warriors and notched her second win of the spring.  She allowed only four hits and one run while striking out eight.

Two One-Run Losses for IHCC in League Play

Ottumwa -- It was a day of frustration for the IHCC softball team on Friday as the Warriors dropped both games of a conference doubleheader with Southeastern CC.  Indian Hills lost the opener 1-0 and then came out on the short end of another one-run decision in game two, losing 3-2.

Missed opportunities were a big reason why the Warriors failed to get a win -- they left 15 runners on base in the two games, many of them in scoring position.

The BlackHawks scored the only run of the first game in the opening inning and Cecilia Alvarez made it stand up, allowing the Warriors six hits, but keeping them off the scoreboard.  Hiliary Pennington had two of the hits for IHCC, but was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a Kaylyn Decock double in the bottom of the 1st.

Kendle Schieber started both games for Indian Hills.  The freshman went the distance in game one and pitched into the 7th inning in the second game with Courtney Collins getting the last two outs.

IHCC tied the score at one in the second game on an unearned run.  SCC pitcher Ashlee Amador put her team on top with a leadoff homer in the top of the 7th and the BlackHawks then added what turned out to be the game-winning run.

Kaitlyn Matzen cut the margin in half with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the 7th, but for the second straight game the comeback attempt came up short.

Pennington had three more hits in game two and Matzen and Schieber had two apiece.  The Warriors could only manage the two runs, despite getting 11 hits.

Schieber's Effort Leads to Split

Muscatine, IA - Freshman Kendle Schieber played a huge role in a first-game victory, but Indian Hills was shut out in the second game and settled for a split in a doubleheader at Muscatine CC on Tuesday, the Warriors' first conference games of the season.

Schieber pitched all 11 innings in the first game and her solo homer in the top of the 11th was the difference as the Warriors won 3-2.  Muscatine bounced back with a 5-0 win in the second contest.

Schieber scattered seven hits and fanned 10 in game one.

It looked like the Warriors were  going to win in the first extra inning when Felisha Durflinger homered in the top of the 8th to snap a 1-1 tie.  MCC's Kaitlyn Caston tied the score with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning.  And it stayed tied until Schieber's game-winning blast in the 11th.

Laci Moore tripled and scored the first IHCC run.  She joined Olivia Starcevich and Carrie Hudson with two-hit games.

Moore and Hiliary Pennington had two hits each in game two, but the Warriors wasted a number of good scoring opportunities and missed a chance at a sweep.

Mackenzie Haight started and took the loss with Courtney Collins pitching 2 1/3 innings in relief.

Indian Hills returns home to continue conference play on Friday in a doubleheader against Southeastern.

Warriors Pound Out Two Wins

Des Moines, IA -- In its best offensive day of the spring, Indian Hills rapped out 23 hits and scored 18 runs in taking two games from Iowa Central CC on Monday, winning 10-2 in five innings and 8-7.

The second game featured an IHCC comeback with the Warriors plating two runs in the bottom of the 7th to pull out the victory.  Iowa Central had grabbed the lead by scoring six times in the 6th inning, but the Warriors fought back with two runs in the 6th and the tying and game-winning runs in the final inning.

Felisha Durflinger had a homer in that game, her eighth of the season, and was one of six IHCC players with two hits.  Kendle Schieber drove in four runs with a two-run single and a two-run double.

Megan Brady picked up her first win of the spring.  She got the last two outs in the top of the 7th and then was the beneficiary when the Warriors won it in the bottom of the inning.

Schieber went the distance in the five-inning opener and she had plenty of offensive support.  Kaylyn Decock doubled and homered and Kaitlyn Matzen also went deep for IHCC.  They combined to drive in seven runs and Matzen scored three times.

The Warriors were to open conference play on the road at Muscatine CC on Tuesday.

Columbus, Neb. -- Indian Hills was on the right side twice and wrong side twice in four lopsided scores over the weekend in a tournament hosted by Central Community College.

Kaitlyn Matzen homered in the loss to McCook and Olivia Starcevich and Laci Moore each had two hits.

The Warriors were held to five hits in the loss to Southeast Nebraska, with Carrie Hudson getting two of them.  Southeast scored all of their 13 runs in the first two innings.

Warriors Just Miss Sweep of DMACC

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills ended DMACC's season-opening 14-game winning streak, but couldn't make it back-to-back wins against the Bears in softball action at Hellyer Field on Tuesday.

Behind the shutout pitching of Kendle Schieber, the Warriors handed DMACC a 5-0 loss in the opener.  But IHCC failed to hold an early 4-0 lead in the nightcap and the Bears recovered to win 5-4.

Schieber helped herself with a two-run single to open the scoring in game one.  Carrie Hudson later added a two-run homer for an even bigger cushion.

Kaitlyn Matzen then got the Warriors off to a good start in the next game with a three-run home run in a four-run 3rd inning.  The Bears, however, battled back against three IHCC pitchers.  An unearned run against reliever Megan Brady was the game-winner in the 7th.

Felisha Durflinger joined Schieber with two hits in the first game and Durflinger and Cheyenne Ellis had two-hit games in game two.

Indian Hills takes part in a tournament hosted by Central CC in Columbus, Nebraska this weekend.

Indian Hills Finishes 2-2 in Home Classic

Ottumwa -- Playing at home for the first time this season, Indian Hills split four games in the Reed Overhead Doors Classic at Hellyer Field on Friday and Saturday.

IHCC opened with 9-2 win against Central (Neb.) CC, then lost to Crowder (Mo.) 6-3.  Saturday saw the Warriors drop a 9-6 decision to Jefferson (Mo.) before ending the tourney with a 7-2 triumph over Ellsworth CC.

Mackenzie Haight went the first five innings in the win against Central and the Warriors supported her with a 15-hit attack that included two homers from Kaitlyn Matzen and one each by Felisha Durflinger and Kendle Schieber.  Six Warriors had multi-hit games and Matzen and Schieber each drove in three runs.

Schieber was the losing pitcher in the Crowder game, going the distance and striking out seven.

Indian Hills took a 3-1 lead into the 5th inning, but saw it disappear when Crowder scored four times in the 5th and scored another run in the 6th.  IHCC was held to four hits, one of them a three-run home run by Durflinger.

Three Indian Hills errors led to four unearned runs in the game with Jefferson.  IHCC tried to rally with four runs in the 6th, but came up short.

Durflinger and Schieber had two hits and Durflinger had three RBIs.  Hiliary Pennigton had two RBIs and two runs scored.

A four-run 4th inning was big in the victory against Ellsworth. Pennington had three hits, two RBIs and scored twice.  Cheyenne Ellis and Matzen had two-hit games.  And Durflinger drove in her eighth run of the tourney, with at least one RBI in every game.

The Warriors are scheduled to host DMACC in a DH on Tuesday.

IHCC Takes Two from North Central

Trenton, Mo. -- Felisha Durflinger homered in each game and the Indian Hills Warriors got good pitching performances in sweeping a doubleheader from North Central (Mo.) on Tuesday by scores of 6-1 and 10-2.

Durflinger had identical numbers at the plate in each game -- two hits, a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs.  That was enough support all by itself for IHCC pitchers Kendle Schieber and Mackenzie Haight.

Schieber scattered eight hits and struck out nine in the opener; Haight allowed only three hits and fanned three in game two as the Warriors picked up their 4th and 5th wins of the season.

"We had solid pitching and aggressive at-bats all day long," said IHCC coach Jim Overturf.  "It was definitely our best, most complete day that we've had so far this spring."

Durflinger had a two-run homer and a two-run double in the first game and she, along with Laci Moore and Olivia Starcevich, scored twice.

Cheyenne Ellis had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs in the second game.  Hiliary Pennington and Schieber joined Durflinger and Ellis with two hits and both also scored two times.

The Warriors poured across nine runs in the 2nd inning to settle matters early.

The decision has already been made to postpone Friday's scheduled doubleheader with Iowa Western.  It's still hoped that Saturday's DH with Illinois Central will be played.

Warriors Go 1-2 in Rain-Shortened Tourney in Missouri

Joplin, Missouri -- Indian Hills played three of the five games they were slated to play at the Carthage Bash before Sunday rains ended the tournament prematurely.

The Warriors lost to Northern Oklahoma - Tonkawa 9-1, defeated Maple Woods 4-1 and dropped a 2-0 decision to Three Rivers on Saturday.

Mackenzie Haight picked up her first win for the Warriors in the victory against Maple Woods, tossing a complete-game six-hitter. She walked two and struck out two.

IHCC got all four runs in the 1st with Kaylyn Decock driving in two of them.  Kendle Schieber had two of the Warriors' eight hits.

Schieber lost a tough decision in the Three Rivers game, giving up seven hits and striking out nine in a route-going effort.  Indian Hills managed only four hits, from four different players.

Northern Oklahoma settled things early in the day's first game, scoring eight runs in the first three innings.  The Warriors had three hits with Cheyenne Ellis driving in Hiliary Pennington with their only run.  Courtney Collins got the start and took the loss with Schieber throwing 5 2/3 innings of relief with five Ks.

Spring Trip Recap

Ottumwa --- A couple of dominating pitching performances by freshman pitcher Kendle Schieber highlighted Indian Hills' season-opening trip to Alabama and Florida.  Schieber threw a two-hitter in the Warriors' 5-1 win against Calhoun (AL) CC to kick off the trip, striking out 12 in her first-ever collegiate start.  She then hurled a two-hit shutout with five Ks as the Warriors ended their journey with a 9-0 blanking of Lake Michigan CC.

In between, unfortunately, the Warriors failed to record a victory, returning with a 2-11 record, although veteran coach Jim Overturf said he definitely saw some positives in his team's performance, even they though failed to record a victory other than the two bookend contests.

"We certainly saw a lot of improvement from the first weekend to the last," said Overturf, who pointed out that his squad's inability to practice outdoors prior to leaving on the trip worked against them.

The staff ERA was 5.25 for the 13 games and that will get better, Overturf said, once his all-freshman pitching staff gets more experience.  "We have to improve our defense beginning with the pitching staff.  We usually gave up one big inning every game," he added, noting that the Warriors did have opportunities to add to their win total, but gave up a late lead in four games.

"The effort was there every day," the coach said, "but getting them to relax and play with confidence was a big challenge.  I really believe they tried so hard that they were very tense and not able to finish games strong."

Schieber also contributed at the plate, leading the team in average at .344, hits with 11 and RBIs with seven.  She had three hits and drove in four runs in the game with Lake Michigan.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Matzen hit .312 while playing in all 13 games and six of her 10 hits were doubles.  Soph Felisha Durflinger had a two-homer game in the opener against Calhoun and freshman Cheyenne Ellis also homered in that contest.

Olivia Starcevich, a freshman, led the team in at-bats with 42 and runs scored with seven.

The Warriors will have to find a way to generate more offense.  They averaged fewer than three runs per game and had a team batting average of .235.

Indian Hills will head to Missouri this weekend for the Carthage Bash and will play five games in two days.  The home and conference opener is slated for March 22 when Iowa Western visits Hellyer Field for a doubleheader.

Trip to Mississippi is Canceled

Ottumwa -- The Indian Hills softball team was slated to open its spring season this weekend in a tournament in Booneville, Mississippi, but with the uncertainty of the weather the trip has been canceled.

The Warriors will now travel to Cullman, Alabama next weekend to begin their season in a tournament hosted by Wallace State CC.  IHCC will play three games on Friday, Mar. 1, and two games the next day.

Those five contests are part of a 13-game season-opening swing Indian Hills will take to Alabama and Florida the first nine days of March.
