Shutout Pitching by Collins, Haight Leads to Split

Ottumwa -- After losing their first three games of the weekend, the Indian Hills Warriors needed a good pitching performance to try and salvage the final game.  And they got it from freshmen Courtney Collins and Mackenzie Haight, who combined on a four-hit shutout as IHCC knocked off Illinois Central, 2-0, on Sunday at Hellyer Field.

Indian Hills was blanked in the opening game, losing 3-0.

In game two, Collins went the first four innings, giving up three hits and striking out four.  Haight permitted only one hit and fanned five in a sterling relief effort.

IHCC got both its runs in the 3rd on RBI hits by Kaitlyn Matzen and Kaylyn DeCock.  Matzen's run-scoring double scored Olivia Starcevich and DeCock followed with another two-base hit, both coming with two outs, to bring home Matzen.

Kendle Schieber suffered the loss in the first game, going the distance and only allowing five hits.  She also had two of the four hits for IHCC with Laci Moore and Matzen getting the other two.

The Warriors are scheduled to play Iowa Western at home on Tuesday.
