Warriors Post Road Sweep

Marshalltown, Ia. -- Indian Hills scored early in both games and the Warriors' pitching made those tallies stand up as IHCC swept a doubleheader at Marshalltown CC on Tuesday, winning 2-0 and 3-1.

Hannah Washburn and Ali Martin teamed up for the first game shutout, spacing eight hits very effectively. Washburn went the first five innings and Martin left the tying runs on base in the 7th to end it. She retired three straight hitters after MCC got consecutive singles to start the inning.

Carrie Hudson slugged a first-inning home run to give the Warriors the only run they would need. Courtney Wood doubled home a run in the 2nd. Lindsey Evans had three hits and Hudson two for IHCC.

Martin saved the second game as well, again stranding the potential tying runs on base in the bottom of the 7th. She came on after starter Grace Cleair gave the Warriors 6 2/3 strong innings, allowing only a sixth-inning solo homer.

Indian Hills scored two unearned runs in the top of the 1st in the nightcap and added a run in the 6th. Wood and Megan Bix each had two-hit games and Wood and Evans had RBIs.

The sweep came on the heels of Monday's pair of wins at Muscatine and leaves IHCC with a season record of 26-23.

They are right back in action on Wednesday, hosting Iowa Western in a league doubleheader starting at 2:00 at Hellyer Field.

Warriors Stay Hot With Sweep

Des Moines, Ia. -- On a day in which they played "incredibly well" according to coach Jim Overturf, Indian Hills took a doubleheader from Iowa Central CC on Tuesday, winning 3-0 and 6-3 against the eighth-ranked (DII) Tritons.

Sophomores Hannah Washburn and Ali Martin teamed up on the first-game shutout and, along with freshman Grace Cleair, shut down ICCC in the nightcap as well.

Washburn started the opener and allowed the lone Iowa Central hit in her five-inning stint. She struck out nine and walked two. Martin fanned two in two innings and notched the save.

IHCC scored single runs in the 1st, 3rd and 4th innings.

Courtney Wood had three hits, including two doubles, and Lindsey Evans two for the Warriors and Evans, Sam Norris and Hiliary Pennington scored the runs.

Martin started the second game and went the first five innings. She gave way to Cleair in the 6th and Washburn earned a save by pitching the 7th.

Indian Hills pounded out 12 hits -- three more by Wood, and two each for Evans and Pennington. Norris scored twice and drove in two runs for the Warriors who moved within a game of .500 with the sweep.

They are 20-21 and have a busy weekend with six games in three days, starting with a doubleheader at Muscatine CC on Friday.
