Ottumwa -- A five-run 3rd inning allowed Indian Hills to come from behind and take the opener of a doubleheader with the William Penn JV on Saturday and the Warriors then completed the sweep by scoring eight runs in the second inning of the nightcap on the way to a 12-1 romp.
With IHCC trailing 4-1 in game one, Kaitlyn Matzen sparked the comeback with a two-run double and Carrie Hudson put the Warriors on top with another two-run two-base hit. Indian Hills added to the lead with single runs in the 5th and 6th.
Olivia Starcevich rapped out three hits for the Warriors and Hudson and Hiliary Pennington each had two. Pennington and Kendle Schieber scored two runs each.
Mackenzie Haight and Megan Brady shared pitching duties for IHCC, Haight going the first six innings and getting the win.
The second game was decided early when the Warriors' first eight batters in the bottom of the 2nd all reached base and came around to score. Matzen slugged her first of two homers in that inning, a two-run shot. She added a three-run blast the next inning, her 10th homer of the season.
Courtney Collins pitched all five innings for the Warriors and notched her second win of the spring. She allowed only four hits and one run while striking out eight.
