Two One-Run Losses for IHCC in League Play

Ottumwa -- It was a day of frustration for the IHCC softball team on Friday as the Warriors dropped both games of a conference doubleheader with Southeastern CC.  Indian Hills lost the opener 1-0 and then came out on the short end of another one-run decision in game two, losing 3-2.

Missed opportunities were a big reason why the Warriors failed to get a win -- they left 15 runners on base in the two games, many of them in scoring position.

The BlackHawks scored the only run of the first game in the opening inning and Cecilia Alvarez made it stand up, allowing the Warriors six hits, but keeping them off the scoreboard.  Hiliary Pennington had two of the hits for IHCC, but was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a Kaylyn Decock double in the bottom of the 1st.

Kendle Schieber started both games for Indian Hills.  The freshman went the distance in game one and pitched into the 7th inning in the second game with Courtney Collins getting the last two outs.

IHCC tied the score at one in the second game on an unearned run.  SCC pitcher Ashlee Amador put her team on top with a leadoff homer in the top of the 7th and the BlackHawks then added what turned out to be the game-winning run.

Kaitlyn Matzen cut the margin in half with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the 7th, but for the second straight game the comeback attempt came up short.

Pennington had three more hits in game two and Matzen and Schieber had two apiece.  The Warriors could only manage the two runs, despite getting 11 hits.
