Muscatine, IA - Freshman Kendle Schieber played a huge role in a first-game victory, but Indian Hills was shut out in the second game and settled for a split in a doubleheader at Muscatine CC on Tuesday, the Warriors' first conference games of the season.
Schieber pitched all 11 innings in the first game and her solo homer in the top of the 11th was the difference as the Warriors won 3-2. Muscatine bounced back with a 5-0 win in the second contest.
Schieber scattered seven hits and fanned 10 in game one.
It looked like the Warriors were going to win in the first extra inning when Felisha Durflinger homered in the top of the 8th to snap a 1-1 tie. MCC's Kaitlyn Caston tied the score with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning. And it stayed tied until Schieber's game-winning blast in the 11th.
Laci Moore tripled and scored the first IHCC run. She joined Olivia Starcevich and Carrie Hudson with two-hit games.
Moore and Hiliary Pennington had two hits each in game two, but the Warriors wasted a number of good scoring opportunities and missed a chance at a sweep.
Mackenzie Haight started and took the loss with Courtney Collins pitching 2 1/3 innings in relief.
Indian Hills returns home to continue conference play on Friday in a doubleheader against Southeastern.
