Warriors and Reivers Split Conference Twinbill

Council Bluffs, IA -- Indian Hills and Iowa Western each won a well-pitched game in a Region 11 softball doubleheader on Tuesday.

The Warriors got a two-out, two-run double from freshman Morgan Powers to take the first game, 3-1, in eight innings. Iowa Western countered with a leadoff, solo home run in the bottom of the 7th to win game two, 2-1 and gain a split.

Brandi Haight threw seven strong innings in the opener and got the win for IHCC. She allowed only six hits.

After Powers provided the Warriors with the lead in the top of the 8th, Sonja Holmes retired IWCC in order in the bottom of the inning to get the save.

Indian Hills' Tory Beaver had an RBI-single in the 1st inning to start the scoring. Iowa Western tied the game in the bottom of the 7th which set the stage for Powers' game-winning hit.

Kris Penick and Sarah Wilcox each had two hits for Indian Hills.

McKenzie Cason's run-scoring single in the top of the 7th tied the nightcap at 1-1. Penick had tripled and she scored on Cason's hit.

The Reivers tallied a first-inning run against Indian Hills pitcher Kylee Coughlin, who then shut down the home team until the game-deciding homer in the 7th. Coughlin only gave up four hits and struck out two.

The seventh-inning hits by Penick and Cason were two of only three that Indian Hills managed in the second game. Ryan Jehle had a double for the other hit.
